Have you ever wondered why the Silva Method uses the alpha sound for relaxation as opposed to any other music?

There are a plethora of meditation exercise out there. What I tend to find is that most of them use soothing, relaxing music in the background. Which makes logical sense, as meditation is supposed to be relaxing.

But there is a specific reason why relaxing music won't de-stress your entire brain and take you to alpha state.  (Hint: It has something to do with the specific needs of the right and the left brain)

Using the Alpha Sound to help you center yourself

The alpha frequency has no sound. Alpha is 10 cps, and the hearing range of human beings is no lower than 20 and no higher than 20,000. So alpha is below the threshold of the human being. How do we hear alpha, if we should call it the alpha sound?

Well, to get the same results, we took an audio generator, 600 cycles audio generator, and interrupted the sound 10 times per second and recorded that. It gives you the same effect. It is very comparable to the output of the brain, when converted to sound, to this sound, the alpha sound. Identical.

For instance, if we detect the alpha sound in microvolts, and convert it into volts, and convert it into sound. If we detect the energy in space, that was done, but is detected into microvolts, this magnetic field fluctuating at 10 times per second, 2 or 3 microvolts, can be amplified to volts, same thing. So then, the way the energy in space sounds, the way the brain frequency sounds, we duplicated this with this audio generator, interrupted 10 sounds per second. That's why we call it the alpha sound, even though alpha has no sound.

We have to have constant rhythms. Your brain wants to lock in on every impulse that it hears. Let's say, I fire a gun, brain impulse. Fire twice, two impulses. Ten times, ten impulses. The brain responds to this. So we have a generator causing a sound, constant sound, gradually decreasing it, and the brain wants to follow it. That's the best way to do it.

Some want to play soft music in the background, and that's supposed to relax you. That's physical, left brain, not slowing down the frequency of the brain. Just relaxing your mind, not your brain, see? You stay awake listening to music, you don't go to sleep. We want you to go in the direction of going to sleep, but not go to sleep. It's a different thing.

So there is relaxing music for the left brain. There is relaxing music for the right brain. The music of the left brain is more stimulated by the volume of sound. The music of the right brain is stimulated more with the beauty of the music. It can be barely heard, but you enjoy it tremendously. The other one is addictive. You want more and more volume. That's why discotheques are blowing out eardrums. They want more and more still, until they can't go any louder any more. They want the whole brain to shake. That's music for the left brain.

Music is not a constant frequency, it is fluctuating. We don't want the brain to be fluctuating back and forth and following the frequency of sound. We want the brain to follow a constant frequency, decreasing. It is monotonous. Slowing down. But music...rushes all over the place. Frequency changing all the time. How can they put the brain in where it goes? You're not going to enter alpha with soft music. You have to have something that the brain can follow.

Hi Friends,

I was catching up on reading the other day and I found this quote:

"If we don't get the epidemic of childhood obesity in check, for the first time in a century children will be looking forward to a shorter life expectancy than their parents."

I remember when this first came out as headline news in 2002. There were  countless articles and news reports on what could have possibly caused this health epidemic - fast food, video games, advertising, pop culture.

What was really interesting to me, is that everybody was blaming external factors for the poor health of our kids. It was always someone else's fault, from corporations to the health care system or even the government.

This blast from the past reminded me how grateful I am to know that we are all responsible for our own health - mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. I strongly believe that we were all born healers and have the capacity to learn how be in complete control of our health.

Whats refreshing to know is that in this day and age, I don't seem to be alone in this belief.

For example in the movie Avatar, what moved me is the powerful message that we are all connected and have the ability to heal ourselves and others.

Even though Avatar is a science fiction movie, it seems as though the concept of  healing oneself is now becoming more and more accepted.

Although I'm sure not everyone accepts this belief.  Whenever there is a new radical idea that challenges current world view, it will always receive some degree of criticism.

Alternative healing used to be one of those radical ideas. It is now currently between the stages of growth and maturity. It's been studied, validated and is now moving towards general acceptance.

Here at Silva we have conducted countless research projects and published  reports on scientific evidence behind energy healing since the 1960's. My father, Jose Silva, was one of the first to scientifically prove the power of mind and how it can heal the human body.

So what's next?

Maybe it is because I grew up exposed to my father's research, I always believed that energy healing will become a natural part of the medical community.

Hi friends,

How were your Christmas celebrations? I must say I had such a wonderful, happy and joyous time surrounded by my loved ones and my family, I just couldn't ask for more.

Even through the hustle and bustle of Christmas, you, my Silva family, were constantly on my mind... And that was when I decided to take this picture to share with you!

But now it's time to look ahead and look forward towards a whole new beginning... 2010 is just around the corner and there is nothing that can make me happier than to see you make it an even better year than 2009!

And to do this, I am going to share with you the 5 Rules of Happiness that my father, Jose Silva has identified.

My father has always said this:

“Stress is not caused by problems. It is your attitude toward the problem that causes stress. Knowing the cause of stress makes it easier to deal with, for now the appropriate question can be asked. The question is not how can I rid myself of stress, but how can I change my attitude toward work, events, disappointments, fears, and people?”

Now as your work towards living the life that you desire in the New Year, keep this in mind everytime you find yourself facing stressful or unhappy situations.

The 5 Rules Of Happiness:

1. If you like something, enjoy it.
2. If you don’t like something, avoid it.
3. If you don’t like something and can’t avoid it, change it.
4. If you can’t or choose not to avoid or change something you don’t like, then accept it.
5. You accept something by changing your perception of it.

Sounds pretty simple right? I agree too, but you'd be surprised at how fast most people forget these 5 simple rules when faced with a difficult situation.

So next time you find yourself in an unhappy or stressful situation, run through these 5 rules in your head and see if you're breaking any of them. Trust me, they'd really help you see what you can do to remedy the situation and be happy.

Did you know that the Silva Method was once  "under investigation"?

I mean that in the best possible way, of course.

Back in 1972, a staff writer by the name of David R. Boldt at The Washington Post decided to 'investigate' a Silva Mind Control seminar, especially after hearing about the amazing case studies by students who attended one.

The act of questioning is a trait exclusive to our species. We have always challenged our potential, and the possibilities that lie within. And while a great deal of these questions remain unanswered, we are slowly but surely beginning to discover answers in areas once shrouded in darkness.

And at times, some questions are best left unanswered...until the right time.

Allow me to explain. At one point in time, my father forbade me to share certain elements of the Silva Method. Practices that empower the user's mind with the ability to heal him/herself and others. Practices that allow the fine tuning of one's energy, to the point where connecting with one's higher self and creating a joy and success-filled reality becomes effortless.

Practices that, in as few words as possible, give you the power to unlock the Unlimited potential of your mind.

So why did Jose Silva not want these practices released to the public? The answer is quite simple. In the 80's, technology and human consciousness were primitive when compared to today's standards. People were much less open to ideas and beliefs that hovered anywhere outside of their comfort zones. And so my father knew that these practices, with their incredible promises and benefits, would likely have scared many people.

At the time, absorbing even the most basic elements of the Silva Method took a considerable leap of faith!

My older sister, Isabel, was the first to be trained as a psychic by my father.
