I was catching up on reading the other day and I found this quote:

“If we don’t get the epidemic of childhood obesity in check, for the first time in a century children will be looking forward to a shorter life expectancy than their parents.”

I remember when this first came out as headline news in 2002. There were  countless articles and news reports on what could have possibly caused this health epidemic — fast food, video games, advertising, pop culture.

What was really interesting to me, is that everybody was blaming external factors for the poor health of our kids. It was always someone else’s fault, from corporations to the health care system or even the government.

This blast from the past reminded me how grateful I am to know that we are all responsible for our own health — mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. I strongly believe that we were all born healers and have the capacity to learn how be in complete control of our health.

Whats refreshing to know is that in this day and age, I don’t seem to be alone in this belief.

For example in the movie Avatar, what moved me is the powerful message that we are all connected and have the ability to heal ourselves and others.

Even though Avatar is a science fiction movie, it seems as though the concept of  healing oneself is now becoming more and more accepted.

Although I’m sure not everyone accepts this belief.  Whenever there is a new radical idea that challenges current world view, it will always receive some degree of criticism.

Alternative healing used to be one of those radical ideas. It is now currently between the stages of growth and maturity. It’s been studied, validated and is now moving towards general acceptance.

Here at Silva we have conducted countless research projects and published  reports on scientific evidence behind energy healing since the 1960’s. My father, Jose Silva, was one of the first to scientifically prove the power of mind and how it can heal the human body.

So what’s next?

Maybe it is because I grew up exposed to my father’s research, I always believed that energy healing will become a natural part of the medical community.

What I want to know is what you think.

Have we become a healthier society  in 2010 than in 2002?

How were your Christmas celebrations? I must say I had such a wonderful, happy and joyous time surrounded by my loved ones and my family, I just couldn’t ask for more.

Even through the hustle and bustle of Christmas, you, my Silva family, were constantly on my mind… And that was when I decided to take this picture to share with you!

But now it’s time to look ahead and look forward towards a whole new beginning… 2010 is just around the corner and there is nothing that can make me happier than to see you make it an even better year than 2009!

And to do this, I am going to share with you the 5 Rules of Happiness that my father, Jose Silva has identified.

My father has always said this:

“Stress is not caused by problems. It is your attitude toward the problem that causes stress. Knowing the cause of stress makes it easier to deal with, for now the appropriate question can be asked. The question is not how can I rid myself of stress, but how can I change my attitude toward work, events, disappointments, fears, and people?”

Now as your work towards living the life that you desire in the New Year, keep this in mind everytime you find yourself facing stressful or unhappy situations.

The 5 Rules Of Happiness:

1. If you like something, enjoy it.
2. If you don’t like something, avoid it.
3. If you don’t like something and can’t avoid it, change it.
4. If you can’t or choose not to avoid or change something you don’t like, then accept it.
5. You accept something by changing your perception of it.

Sounds pretty simple right? I agree too, but you’d be surprised at how fast most people forget these 5 simple rules when faced with a difficult situation.

So next time you find yourself in an unhappy or stressful situation, run through these 5 rules in your head and see if you’re breaking any of them. Trust me, they’d really help you see what you can do to remedy the situation and be happy.

Back in 1972, a staff writer by the name of David R. Boldt at The Washington Post decided to ‘investigate’ a Silva Mind Control seminar, especially after hearing about the amazing case studies by students who attended one.

I’ve always known that we have people from all walks of life attending our seminars and classes, but I particularly love it when journalists and writers attend our classes because, well, because then they will publish it in the newspapers!

And I’m very happy to say that I found the article!

The Silva Mind Control was the earlier version of the Silva Intuition System, that also teaches you how to develop your intuition or clairvoyance skills. Those days, they were more familiarly known as Extra Sensory Perception (ESP) and psychic abilities.

And at times, some questions are best left unanswered…until the right time.

Allow me to explain. At one point in time, my father forbade me to share certain elements of the Silva Method. Practices that empower the user’s mind with the ability to heal him/herself and others. Practices that allow the fine tuning of one’s energy, to the point where connecting with one’s higher self and creating a joy and success-filled reality becomes effortless.

Practices that, in as few words as possible, give you the power to unlock the Unlimited potential of your mind.

So why did Jose Silva not want these practices released to the public? The answer is quite simple. In the 80’s, technology and human consciousness were primitive when compared to today’s standards. People were much less open to ideas and beliefs that hovered anywhere outside of their comfort zones.
